I was reading about it, and it sounds interesting, but I'm not sure whether it would be good for me because of the ideas expressed in it.

I am a Christian, and I know what I believe. I also understand that the book is fiction. I just don't know whether it's good for me to read about all the stuff in it.

The DaVinci Code is a fictional book. There's no truth to it. Your faith in God is the most important thing in your life, and if you are about to do something that could jeopardize that faith, I wouldn't advise you to do it. That goes not just for the DaVinci Code, but for anything.

Read below my opinion I wrote to some TV channels and New Papers:

The world is seriously concerned and the Christian World (especially the Roman Catholic Church) is hurt through a book of an individual that contains his own manipulations. That too on a subject of more than two thousand years old with no adequate evidence for the views he has.

Dan Brown is nothing but a cunning writer where he found a safe base to start his game. The base from where he started his book is already well known to the whole world and so he had no doubt that his book would a best seller. His mind is nothing better than that of a crazy street boy who tries to spoil or tarnish a sculpture or a statue or a painting that was admired by rest of the world. He succeeded in doing it. The act can be compared with that of the Talibans who destroyed the Budha’s statue. Here, I am not comparing their aims.

Now to the Christian world and the Roman Catholic Church I have a question. If your God is powerful, why don’t you leave the matter to Him to handle? Is not your almighty God powerful enough to handle a Dan Brown, if his views are against Him?

Dan Brown, Salman Rushdie, Kazantzakkis etc.are all such writers who had another indirect aim in their minds that fame is easy when they try to tarnish a famous matter. Keeping aside their literary talents there is nothing worth admiring. But they succeeded and the media and whole world are being fooled. Moreover, when one religion is insulted the rest rejoice. This is another key point of their success.

It is a good book as long as you remember that it is just FICTION. There are many resources out there to support that the beliefs stated in the da vinchi code are fiction.

See the link below for a very informative article regarding the Christian faith and the da vinchi code.

I think it is, and here's why - when you're talking to young people, regardless of faith, it's important to have a dialogue with them. This should pertain to TV, the radio, newspapers, and all kinds of media, books especially. Sure, the Da Vinci Code is controversial. And yes, most of the contents are opposed to Christian beliefs. But I think it's what many teacher like myself call a teaching opportunity.
That doesn't mean lecturing, though. After the kids read it, get them together to talk about. What in the book do they feel isn't doctrinal Christianity (whatever your denomination)? What is? What do you they think about the portrayal of Opus Dei? You can encourge the kids to do research and talk about what they've found, or, if that's too much work, you can just talk it out, using the Bible. Let them decide what's right and wrong, with your guidance, and you'll be shocked at the sophistication they're capable of. By all means, they should read - but not in a vacuum.

I would say no, wait a couple years before you read the book. This isn't that you couldn't keep Christianity and christian fiction separate, but that you might not have a full understanding of the setting that the book is taking place in. There is a lot of heavy stuff in that book that might get lost on you, and there really is not any rush to read the book.

We live in the United States of America - we here don't "burn books". We still have freedom of speech - unless "something" happened within the last few minutes! Whatever, if you or any "Christian" doesn't want to read the book - then don't read it! Because, you also have the "freedom" to choose here! But, you may be correct - I think the "ideas" expressed in that particular book are for people with a little more "open-minded" expression. I think the "operative" word in this whole answer is "freedom"!!!! Get it!!! The people in the USA also have "freedom" of religion, too!

Hello friend,
The best Good Book to read is God's Book. I would caution you about Dan Browns' book if you are new in the faith. Better to get grounded in God's Word before exposing your mind to the opinions of the ungodly.
Please read Eph.chapter 3 especially 3:17-19.
Save your heart some trouble.
God bless.
(2 Tim. 2:7)

It plants ideas in their heads that, even if they think that they understand it is only fiction, sometimes take root and they begin to think that it is truth.

I haven't read it so I don't know what ages it's good for. But as long as you're not planning on taking it as fact since it is a fictional book, go ahead and read it.
