My stimpy does this sometimes; Rig up the bathtub to drip and let him PLAY!!!!!! He'll drink as much as he wants.

You think that is bad, I have a cat whom was abused and is kind of mentally-handicap. If you seen the way he acts you can tell. Anyways, I have a self-watering bowl, where if the spout hits air it bubbles to the top of the bottle and makes the water ripple inside the bottle. He then proceeds to headbutt the bottle until he knocks it off and about a half gallon of water spews all over the floor. Believe me you anywhere there is water this cat makes it ripple too. My advice to you is to accommodate to your cats behavior or change the style of water bowl. Those fountain water bowls work great for that problem because instead of doing it themselves that just watch it. My boyfriend broke mine though. Be lucky that is the only behavior he's got. My cousin's cat cannot be left alone for more then 24 hours or she gets "presents" on her pillow.

Find a bigger bowl or something for him to splash in. Put a towel under it to catch the water. You can buy a water feeder for a cat. That way it will have plenty of water and it can't really splash in it.

Cats tend to have poor very close vision. the problem is your cat can't see where the top of the water is, and also doesn't want to get his/her face wet. Get a wider bowl so it can easily see the edge of the water against the side of the bowl while having his/her head near the water.

Cats typically prefer running water over still water. My suggestion would be to either put a towel under the bowl or buy one of those running water fountains for your cat. I know that Petco has the relatively cheap.

My cat splashes her water dish too. She likes to clean her paws. I don't think there's anything you can do except keep filling up the bowl. It's pretty harmless as far as bad habits go. Consider yourself lucky!

My cat does the same thing! He loves to play in his water and my poor other cat does not get any water to drink. He especially loves to play in the dog water bowl!

You can get an automated water bowl for a cat at Petsmart or a store like that. He'd probably like that and stop pissing you off.

Put a matt down to soak up the water, and change his water daily, if not twice a day. Let him express himself. If you're lucky this will be the worst behavior you'll have to deal with. Just love him while you have him.

try position them in a nook, so it may purely be accessed from one part. That way, the bowls will only get pushed into the wall. Or try some higher/flatter bowls. perchance the cat has difficulty to get to the nutrition and water?
