that's a good weight for a cat.
you can help him stay in a good weight in two ways:
good quality food. don't leave his food in the bowl, cut the food to twice a day, give him 50% in the morning and the other 50 at night.
play with him alot keep him activated with game, search online for made at home games.

11 pounds isn't exactly overweight. It really depends on the breed. My cat is 11 lbs and the vet said he is fine. Not overweight at all for his frame size. The vet actually expected him to be much larger, since he was such a big kitten. 11 months is almost full grown. He may just be very muscular. Talk to the vet first before you put him on a weight loss plan. You may be doing him more harm than good. My mom has a 23 lb cat. HE needs a weight loss plan. : )

When was the last time you took your cat to the vet? Did the vet say your cat is over weight? Eleven pounds doesn't sound a lot to me. Is your cat fixed? Is he declawed? Male cats are generally bigger than female cats. If he is active and playful, I wouldn't worry so much about him and his weight. But if it has been awhile since he was seen by a vet, take him to get looked at. The vet will give him a good exam and tell you if he has a weight problem.
Good luck to you and your cat. Pets are wonderful friends and companions and are joys to have around!

It may be the breed of cat. Took my guy to the vet and the vet told me he was a British Short hair and that is their size. He got up to 26 pounds. Lived a very healthy life for 18-20 years.

an overweight cat can lead to a lot of health problems like diabetes, urinary tract infections and breathing problems. consult your vet and see what regimen they recommend and to also make sure your cat doesn't have some other problem, that's contributing to the weight gain. don't try to be a vet yourself, it's dangerous for cats to lose weight too quickly, because of damage to their liver. a vet can also give you information on a good dietary cat food. a good reminder is to remove feeding bowls after meals to discourage overeating. love your cat, but not that much. good luck and hugs for kitty

You will need to feed him less or differently
If you leave food out all day
maybe only leave it out an hour then again at night
there are also weight control foods
also no people food
for the best advice call a vet and ask them for advice

he should be on adult food at this stage and preferable a good quality food - all the foods sold in grocery stores or wal marts are low quality - too much filler and lots of fat.. the filler means the cats have to eat more to get nutrition - they put fat in the food to give the pets a glossy coat so the owners who are too dumb to realize its a crappy food think "oh my pet has a shiney coat - it must be eating good food" but infact it isnt...
a premium level food has CHICKEN MEAL or LAMB MEAL or TURKEY MEAL as first ingredient - rice is second... no by-products (beaks feet feathers)
