Religion is more like a guide-book that tells you how to behave and guides you through your life. Each religion has different rules and guidlines, but at the end of the day, they all come down to basically the same spiritual belief.
Note that following a religion is not the same as spirituality as a lot of fundamentalists believe. You can still have faith without following a religion, it's just very difficult to do so since there are no precedents to be followed.

For a sincere believer, following his/her religion is not a hobby.
It has to do with the meaning of living in this world.
There's only one truth to follow. A believer lives to worship his/her Creator, but this doesn't have to do only with practicing the usual rituals. The worship begins from being a witness of the miracle in creation till accepting the return to the Creator.
This is definitely the purest belief associated by the credence that there's only one God that deserves to be worshipped and nothing else.
It's not difficult to find miracles in creation for those who really want to seek after the truth.
In my first steps of findig the truth, I was told that knowledge is the root of belief "read to believe".
I feel very lucky I've found the truth that made my heart feel like being in a safe tower witnessing many people lingering in a labyrinth with no exit. DARE TO FIND THE ONLY TRUTH FOR GOD WILL HELP YOU FIND IT, JUST BE SINCERE IN YOUR EFFORTS.

You may just need to congrigate near people who believe in doing right in this world.
It might just make you feel better about yourself and your life. You can join in on an activity to help the community. It's hard to meet people and get into stuff like that if you don't join a church but it's not impossible.
Just don't go if you hate going. That's a waste of a Sunday morning.

some people look for comfort when things goes wrong and they tend to look for higher beings for help
when bored at least maybe someone will be there to hear you talk rather than thinking that you are talking to the air
when uneasy you know that a higher being is always there for you
when your prayer got answered you have someone to prise, of not then you have someone to ask why

but alas, that depends on what religious belief you are taking.
Why are you asking a question for which you already know the answer?

You can preach Peace and Love and practise terror and hatred. If you don't belong to any religion the chance to preach is comparatively less.
