My husband and I are having a debate. I was raised to rinse away the 'juices' around canned beans, and he has always eaten it along with the beans. I never knew why I rinsed them, I guess it was a force of habit. So, I am wondering, does everybody rinse or just eat them the way they come from the can? Thanks in advance for your advice... Bye^^

Rinsing canned beans takes off the juices that cause gas, supposedly. I have tried this and my husband is proof that it helps! Personally, I like keeping the juices if I am using them in a soup or something because they act as a thickener.

I rinse canned green, yellow but the black & kidney bean I just drain off the juice and leave the the settling in the bottom it seems to add more flavor that way when I use them im cooking.

I guess it's a matter of preference.... but every recipe I've read using canned beans has called for the beans to be rinsed (unless they are in a sauce). Personally, I find those 'juices' extremely unappealing.

Absolutely. Those always get rinsed. And cook the kidney beans thoroughly before eating. Saves you a stomach ache.

Most recipes suggest that you rinse the beans. You probably should if you're making somthing like a salad. But sometimes people add all the liquid when they're making something like beans and pasta because it makes the broth creamier and more flavorful.

I would never think of retaining the liquid in canned beans, unless they are in a specific sauce. This water in beans can be contaminated. A few years ago my mother found a worm-like creature floating in a can of mushrooms. Can you imagine how yucky that would be! She threw the entire can out, of course. But anyway, I m all for draining and rinsing beans and all other canned vegetables.

Yes, you are supposed to, unless they are the Pork 'n' Beans type (in tomato sauce, etc.). That isn't "sauce" around kidney and white or black beans. It's like a brine kind of liquid and extremely unappealing in cooking.
