Try to get her involved in activities, like sports, walking, hiking, swimming - anything to get her moving!
Does she use a computer often? Maybe you can sign her up for e-diets or south beach on-line. Its difficult to help her when you're not home, but maybe that is one way you could help.

There are several reasons a young girl like your sister could be overweight. Here are my thoughts:
1. You need to talk with her and find out what's going on. She needs to talk with someone...better you than no one, even for only 5 weeks
2. Help her find some activities that are FUN! Maybe she'd like to do something but feels she's too fat to join in, or thinks she has to go to the gym to work out (which is embarassing when you're overweight anyway). Perhaps she could try tennis or softball...maybe even swimming. Just some fun activities that won't make her think she's exercising!!
3. She needs to learn how to prepare snacks ahead of time...bags of frozen strawberries are great in the summer. If she can cut a little sugar from her diet, things like Celery and whatnot would actually begin to taste good to her.
These helped for me. Also, when I was her age my mom was yelling at me and making me feel like crap about my weight. That only made it much worse!!! Try these things above. I bet making it enjoyable and not something she has to think negatively about all the time is the right medicine for her.
Tell her that I told her she can do it...and to try and just have some fun. Sounds like she could use a few good laughs, a few wins from a team and a few high fives for a job well-done.

Exercise really won't do much. I'm telling you just tell her to start counting her calories and she obviously needs to bring them down significantly but also gradually. If she's taking in 4000 calories a day tell her to try 3500 calories for a week and then week 2 3000 calories, week 3 2500 calories and so on until she reaches 1500-1700 calories a day which is normal for a young female. Check the labels on the food to count caloric intake. Anyways hope this helps because your answer to my question stunk. cya

She should be counting her fat and calorie intake per day. Get more excercise as well like going for a walk after dinner, etc. She really should see a doctor about it first though. You can always scedule an appointment with a dietician too. Good luck!

My suggestion is to do two things...
- eat more healthy food, meaning less ice cream, cheeseburgers, etc and more vegetables and salads.
- change your lifestyle to involve more physical activities such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator, do a lot of daily walking (about a quarter mile each day, then increase it to half a mile after a couple of weeks, etc) like going to the park.
Generally, anything that'll involve more physical activity will help you lose weight faster.
Hope this helps.
