Why are people into training their dogs to fight?

I heard on the news last night that a local dog fighting ring was discovered yesterday. The dogs are being removed from the home. It makes me sick to think of any dog being subjected to this horrific abuse. Can anyone tell me why people do this?

Because they are stupid and have to much free time. So they sit around with their stupid friends, abuse animals to get off. Trying to make a little cash, trying to be thuggy. I think it's stupid, and those people should be mauled to death by the animals they screw up. Seeing what they do to get them that way is just sick and unimaginable.

Some people want to keep the APBT as close as possible to the original dogs which includes anything from weight to being game. Gameness has to be tested and there is a way to do it which is illegal and has a purpose. These 100lb. dogs are good for nothing and breeding for color is akin to the designer dog craze. AMSTAFF is not an APBT. They are for show and not go. The backyard breeders are destroying this breed when honest dogmen have spent their lives taking the best of the best and making it better. IN 34years i have never been "attacked" nor bitten by an APBT and I have owned more than most of you have ever seen. You people are right, there are idiots and morons that fight dogs for money , to be macho or whatever. They don`t know what they are doing or what they are looking for. A game dog is not a pet. the dog loves what he does and he is the best in the world at it. Few matches end up with the death of a combatant, the dog can be picked up or disqualified by failing to make a scratch. There are so many sites and books on the subject so there`s no reason to remain ignorant and make statements that are`nt true. Locking jaw? To look macho? I`m a combat veteran with two tours in hell and I boxed for four years so you can take the macho myth and stick it up your ***.

Many people will do anything for the sake of a little bit of money. Those poor dogs could be made to fight and people place bets on the results. Have you ever heard of cockerel fights in Thailand? Those are almost the same as dog fights.

They are sick people who just want easy money! They should all be stuck in a ring with about 20 of these dogs attacking them!!

Usually people to do it to make themselves seem more powerful or stronger.....It makes them feel good to have a mean, powerful dog at the end of a leash....THey are sick and twisted and just need to make themselves feel better b/c really they are just some little man/woman who may have been picked on as a child. because we like to feel that we as humans are poerful. We can make other dogs fight and even kill each other. Often these people can't control anything in their lives but these dogs. It makes them feel like their in control. Those people need councilling, its very sad.
