norton is slowing you down because u r using system resources and memory.in addition, my opinion of Norton is it is bad anyway. right click the norton on the taskbar, and click exit. dont run the application. or better yet, completely uninstall norton and use another anti-virus.
other anti-virus:
AVG or Avast
any other quest feel free to IM me

Norton's, when installed and working correctly does not slow your PC down. I'd go to Start and Run msconfig - this will bring up your startup menu. Deselect everything in your Services and Startup tabs except for Microsoft programs and Nortons. You'll have to reboot.

After the restart, do a full system scan to ensure there are no viruses on your system, go onto the net and see if its working properly - if it is, then its another program that's causing the problem.

I'd also visit Limewire.com and download Window Washer. This will clear all of the garbage out of your system. After this, I'd run defrag to ensure your PC is operating at optimal performance.

Hi there, user22 here. I had the same problem with that same Norton Anti Virus. After 4 trips to the shop I was told that Norton was the problem. I contacted Norton & sent them the bills and a statement from the repair shop. They gave me back my original cost and I deleted their program from my puter. The anti Virus was taking up too much space in my puter causing it to go too slow.Good luck with yours.

The Norton Security center is a bloated piece of work. The best advise I can give you is that if you will not move to a decent product you need to have buy twice the system than what you need without Norton.

I know this!!!

The reason NAV 2006 is slowing your system down is because it uses 6 to 7 extra background services it creates when you install it. If you want to continue using NAV 2006, I would suggest you add ram to your machine. It slows down machines using 256mb or less of ram. Ive seen NAV 2006 slow machines running 512mb Ram that use more than usuall ammount of programs. I know, I own a computer store and I install NAV 2006 on new builds with 512mb or more ram.

Norton definitely slows down the performance of the PC. But, it is the better option to install to protect your PC from Virus. Only Norton can give a perfect protection from Virus. I suggest you not to remove Norton from the PC. We do have an option to increase the performance of the PC. Please log on to the following weblink which tells you how to to increase the system performance without adding RAM.

Yeah, this is what Norton does, best suggestion is to get rid of Norton and use either AVG, http://free.grisoft.com/ or Avast, http://www.avast.com/ these are much lighter anti-virus programs and will not slow down even the oldest PC.

But those are not all-in-one solutions you will still have to get some anti-spyware programs as well like Spybot, Adaware, Windows Defender and SpywareBlaster (yes, all of them).

Norton is a major system resource hog. you can do one of a few things
1. remove Norton all together
2. remove parts of Norton - remove and reinstall only certain parts of Norton
3. upgrade your RAM
