Holistic/alternative vets recommend it. It is used for gardening though, so I'm a bit concerned about using it on my dog. Looking for a second opinion. Thanks!

I don't know about using it for mange, but neem oil mixed with water makes a good but stinky mosquito repellant for dogs. I have never had trouble using it on my dogs.

It is a natural extract, very low risk of side effects
Ant natural pesticide is better than chemical
The chemical treatments for mange are very toxic

***In response to the 1st answerer Demodectic Mange is indeed a parasite. Yes it is a problem when the dog has a comprimised immune system the the parasite takes over and causes the symptoms associated with the disorder, In fact the only way to absolutely diagnose it is by a skin scraping and microscopic visualizing of the mite. There are 2 types of mange the demo and scarpoctic(sp) the latter is the contagous although much easier and quicker to cure.
By adding things to your dogs diet you can help boost their immune system
The dips and injections are extremely toxic and have been known to kill a very sick dog
Unless the mange is generalized or over large patches of the body treatment may not even be necessary and the immune system can possibly fight it

Demodex mange is an autoimmune response to stress or trauma or many things. It is not parasitic it is the dogs own body doing this to iteself.
We have successfully treated many cases of it by giving injections one week and a special dip type bath the nest week. It however takes weeks or months of treatment and can reoccur at any time.
I am not sure I would go the holistic route on this one. I have seen to many cured by a regular vet with meds and I know it does work.
Good luck.
