They are as likely to recognize the truth as Katie Holmes is to realize that she was brainwashed into the Scientology cult.

Allah was a minor moon god behind a whole pantheon of gods worshiped in Mecca. Since he was the god revered by Muhammad's family, he became the god of Islam. That's why Islam is represented by a crescent moon. The other gods were conveniently removed. Later, to make Islam more palatable to Christians and Jews, Muhammad had a "vision" that Allah was actually Jehovah.

The official Muslim story is that it was built by Abraham as a shrine to god. It was later taken over by idol worshipers. Supposedly then Muhhamed had all the idols destroyed and rededicated it to the ONE TRUE god.

Abraham, if he existed at all, is certainly pre-history so there's no way to know he built it (which is absurd anyway considering the location).

Allah was most certainly one of the gods of the Arabian pantheon, but in particular, Muhhamed's god. When he rose to power he had the others destroyed.

Yeah, being a religion major and a Muslim, I know the poor attempt your are trying to pull is invalid.

It all started when this old man or Yahoo! got tired of seeing Muslims had answers for all the questions asked about Islam and him beging a Christian had to go with the lines like "You need to have faith to understand this" or "Believe in Jesus as your savior".

The Ka'ba at Mecca, which may have initially been a shrine of Hubal alone, housed several idols; a number of others, too, were gathered in the vicinity. (Mohammed, Maxime Rodinson, 1961, translated by Anne Carter, 1971, p 38-49)

it was built by abraham(pbuh)so that people worship the one true God/Allah at this place.....but later pagan arabs filled this place with idols and shapes of their gods...when mohammad(pbuh)came with the message of islam and later returned to mecca and conquered it(after the pagan arabs did not accept him in mecca because of his message)he destroyed the idol statues inside to make it a place to worship one God/Allah....and not other gods in statues and like that.
i want to add another information here i.e.the word Allah in arabic comes from the word ilah which means the worshipped one so it literally means God in english so dont think for instance that we worship the god of moon...we worship only the absolute one God/Allah who is the creator of everything and is ALMighty.
its like jehovah for the jews they worship the same absolute God/Allah(although they have other wrong beliefs of him and they shaped him) but they call him another name in their language....it will be really stupid when you say you are worshipping jehovah not God....? or you are worshipping Allah not God.......Allah and God are the same thing but in different languages.......we believe in the same God as the christians but they believe he has a son and we dont.......get it..?
Peace...
