No.

If you needed a passport within the country it would be an ID card. Which the Government is threatening to introduce.

ID cards are a really bad idea. The people they are meant to stop can easily get around them, whilst for ordinary people they are distasteful "big brother" systems. This is particularly so since the UK Government is proposing to combine the ID card itself with huge computer systems for which they intend to force you to give personal data including fingerprints, and to record information such as your visits to the doctor and bank transactions.

The cost of the proposed ID card system is huge(of the order of £10s of billions of pounds, given the usual overrruns) and there would be more cost-efficient ways of addressing problems such as terrorism and illegal immigration. Even the current Government is getting concerned about this cost.

Get worried.

Not an absolute necessity, but useful for ID purposes. Of course, if the Government have their way, we'll have to pay something like £100 soon to have a compulsory ID card!

I heard that if you already have a photo driving licence then you may not need to have an ID card though.

A passport is a reliable form of ID though. I have one and haven't been abroad since I got my current one. But I've used it loads for ID.

No you don't. The only forms of ID I have got is my birth certificate, bank card and National Insurance Number Card. When asked in interviews to provide 'photographic' ID, I tell them that I do NOT have a passport and NO driving licence. They are reasonably happy to have sight of a birth certificate and a bank statement.

Yes, absolutely. Despite the fact that your family may have been born here for ten generations, if you don't have a British passport, they will kick you out and you will have to live on a raft in the North Sea.

as a results of fact the others have reported, photograph identity is barely mandatory for flights. some airways insist on passports. you do not want something to step on a prepare. There are actually not any border controls between uk international locations.

It isnt a necessary document, no, but it is EXTREMELY useful for ID purposes, but if you have no intention of going abroad, I'd still get 1. Some banks only accept Passports as proof of ID thanks to all this fraud going around
