Just about all fire alarms have a warning system that the battery is low. The warning is beeping all the time. Change the batteries and you'll be all set. Don't be lazy and just turn the thing off. Get new batteries for it so you can continue to have peace of mind that the alarm is in good working order. Everyone thinks it won't happen here and generally they're right. Occasionally though, it does happen "here" and you wouldn't want to be sorry that you didn't feel like changing batteries.

Change the battery and make sure the 'red' light on the alarm turns to 'green', or else hit the reset button on the alarm.
