I'm almost 19 now and only weigh 120lbs. Enough is enough! I've tried several methods of weight lifting along with taking supplements, but after a month or so each time I still see almost no change... Any one else dealt with this problem before?

Most supplements make you lose weight, so stop taking those.

Instead, drink protein shakes 2 times a day ... you can get the protein powder at GNC or other vitamin stores. Tell the clerk you are trying to GAIN weight.

Eat 3 meals a day and 2 snacks ... since you're trying to gain weight, don't worry if the snack are healthy or not. Have a soda ... one soda has almost the same amount of calories as a small meal.

Continue working out, because muscle is heavier than fat. Do more weight training than cardio because the cardio will burn more calories, and you don't want that right now.

The best way to gain weight is to drink a good supplement, such as Ensure Plus. It contains much protein, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fat (yes, you do need fat in your diet.) See the source link to read about it.

But the supplement alone is not enough. You need to build muscle. To build muscle, the best way is through weight training. Riding is bike is also good, but keep in mind that weight training is the best. Stay away from isometric exercises, as they are mostly to tone, not build muscle.

Remember, that muscle weighs more than fat. If you want to bulk-up, creating muscle is the way to go.

By the way, if have the time and can afford it, find a reputable gym that has a nutritionist on staff and join it. Also, you get more benefit from working out by going three times per week, not everyday, believe it or not.

I too was very small when I was younger.Your workouts should include big compound movements like heavy squat,bench press,dead lift and barbell rows.These are the best to increase body mass.You must also take in a surplus of calories and get some form of good protein every three hours.Rice and peanut butter are great things to add to your diet for mass but the protein is key so don't forget about it.Use a carb drink with protein within 1/2 hour after your workout.Click on some of my best answers for more details.

In case you haven't guessed yet, I'm pretty passionate about the subject of gaining weight because gaining weight was one the most rewarding things I have ever done for myself. My confidence levels have risen 1 million percent, my body feels great, and people compliment me all the time. What more could I ask for? How do I gain weight you ask? Easy... I train for strength first! I started doing this because of the all the confusion I was hearing from these "weight gain secret" programs. Well I gained weight really quick eating ice cream, eating at late hours of the night and sleeping before waking up to burn it off! Plus I just didn't do no exercise but you have to do it excessively that's what I did! Plus when I was in basic training my Drill Sergeant would make me go through the chow line twice so that I could gain weight because I was underweight it worked! Afterwards I worked out and I went from a 102 to 130! Nine weeks!

Your a hard gainer (a person that has a had time gaining muscle). I too am hard gainer, people like us have to try a lot harder to gain mass. To solve this problem consume higher calories, 4000-5000 a day. I suggest healthy calories like milk, natural peanut butter, nuts and red meat. To do this you have to eat 6 small meals a day. Like me, it sounds as though you simply have a very fast metabolism so your body efficiently breaks down virtually everything you eat. Supplements are probably not the best approach. Rather, really increase the general amount you eat and combine this with workouts which will force the body to use the excess energy to build up muscle, thus storing it rather than losing it as you usually would.

That said, if you find you can't build yourself up, stop worrying about it and appreciate the advantages of looking the way you do!

hey buddy im 23 year old male and i went through the same thing that your going throw and i totally understand what you need to do is accept your sistuation mentally and understand the way your body works brother. your still young and your body will keep developing as you get older. i was around your weight for a while and what i felt that helped me now that im 23 and weigh 160lbs and thats the weight im comfortable with. im 5'7 but staky now. what i did was work out like 4 to 5 times a week, and actually ate alot but not all at once. i portioned it out like every 2 to 3 hours. i drink alot of water and gatorade and im in the army so im active and in shape. just be patient and it will come to you. try looking up websites like mens health.com and you will find alot of information to help you and it did help me. just be mentally strong and accept it and go from there. take care and i wish you luck.

Weight training is a way of life.. not a weight gain solution. There are plenty of people out there that can bench press my weight which is twice their weight even though they look like they couldn't bench press a pretzel. You will gain some weight over time.. (giving a month isn't giving it your all) but you will never be a 180lb heavyweight. Be happy with who you are and be glad you are not gaining weight by being a fat lazy slob who does nothing but drink beer and watch TV like most of us.

Your metabolism hasn't caught up with you yet. Basically, when you eat, your body just inscinerates it ... nothing sticks to you. When you get older ... (22-28) your metabolism slows down and what you eat stays with you longer. (Too long in some cases...)

You may want to try a weight gain supplement, available at any GNC or even Wal-Mart or Target. It'll help you beef up... not muscularly .... but fat-ul-ur-ly...
