You can never forget the past. The things that happen to us throughout life help to shape who we are. I think that the object is not to forget it but live a happy healthy life in spite of it. I do not know what happened that you want to forget but I do know that piece of mind is something that you have to work on and work through. It does not come from losing or gaining memories it comes from coping with the ones that you have. It comes from not taking on a defeated attitude and fighting your own demons to allow yourself to rise above that become the stronger person. Sometimes you have to fly close to the son so that you can shed your wax wings and come out on the other side a better person. I think that maybe you should start writing even if you do not write. Just scribble down thoughts here and there and before you know it you will have all these thoughts and emotions that you have going through you down. Then can start to address them what makes you happy what makes you angry and what you can do to change those things. You also have to realize that there are certain things that you can not change and you have to accept that. Soul searching is your answer!

do something you enjoy. keep your mind busy and stay in the now. forgive those who hurt you and understand that life is full of hurts and pains.
