Fuel injection service is when after a period of time- sometimes around 25000 miles give or take a bit- the injectors get a bunch of crap stuck to them.

Cleaning them can improve gas mileage significantly- I personally observed a 1998 Ford F-150 go from 14MPG to 16 MPG.

Get the Haynes or the Chiltons guide for YOUR vehicle and follow its example

If your fuel injectors get clogged, it's probably due to bad gasoline or water in the fuel tank.

Should a fuel tank be kept dry for a prolonged period of time, it develops condensation which turns into rust.

Rust builds up and feeds it's way through your gas filter and then through your fuel injectors, clogging them and then affecting the engine's performance.

I had this problem. Was a lot of work to replace the fuel injectors, do complete tune-up, replace the fuel filter, and ultimately replace the gas tank.

So to prevent this, make sure your car never sits around for a long time with no gasoline in the tank.

Better still, try not to ever have your car sit idle for more than a few days.

Remember to change oil filters every ten to fifteen thousand miles.

Fuel injection service could mean more than just replacing fuel injectors.

A correctly maintained automobile should never need new fuel injectors.
