I've notice some things about the way that a certain person acts with her family. She is a close friend of mine - and this is how I know these things. Is this normal behavior? Even when she doesn't respect the wishes of the family members? Even when she has a cold? Is it normal for her to act as if she's 10 years old and copy everything that other people are doing, even when it's not right for her? Is it normal for her to tell jokes all of the time and expect laughter even when it is apparent that everyone is busy?

I think that hugging relatives and friends all the time is OK. Sometimes we hug and kiss our friends more than we do our family. Most people end up sorry that they were not more affectionate with their family when they had the chance.......Some of the other problems you mention with your friend are more deep rooted than family affection.

I think if you read what you've written, then you'll find you already have the answer.

It's not the physical contact or affection that's the problem - it's the expectation that everyone will accept her wishes (kissing, copying, telling jokes) when she doesn't seem to respect theirs.

If this is a close friend, you may even know why she does it. She obviously needs close contact with other people, but hasn't learned how to get that without being invasive.

She may have missed out on affection in the past - maybe you can find a way to remind her how special she already is, without needing to prove it all the time. People will appreciate her more.

It sounds like maybe she is being starved of attention in some other area of her life and is trying to get this attention from her family. The fact that she constantly tells jokes could be a sign that she is also hiding some form of depression which may be a result of the lack of attention or affection.

But having said all that - the opposite could well be true, meaning she could just be an outgoing, happy, bubbly person who loves her family and likes to let them know this by being very tactile with them!

Hard to tell really!

She might be fighting depression. The bouyant attitude, the desire for physical comfort, the desire to tell jokes, laugh and especially hear laughter: These could be signs that inside she's battling despair. I know it's difficult, but try to understand and be patient. If she IS battling despair, it's a tough fight.

Most people who act like this have been the victim of childhood neglect.People who go out of their way to be noticed, have been deprived of love and affection as a child. She probably doesnt even realize she does this.Just try to deal with her teh best you can without hurting her feelings.Good luck God bless:O)
