hi there,
a couple of weeks ago, my cousin and his wife from abroad cam into the UK and are staying with us
they have a visa for 4 months, and are planning to leave before then somehwere in november.
but some growing suspision tells me that his wife is pregnant, and this is all set up so that she would have a baby in the UK.

im not at all pleased that they kept this from me, but i was wondering, if she did have a baby here, what rights would the baby have and the parents... being my cousin and this wife?
does the baby become a UK citizen?
and does this mean the parents get to live here for life?
what else are the parents intitled to??

thank you taking the time to read this.
hoepfully i here some good news now from your answers...

NO. The baby would not have dual citizenship automatically. Under the law called JUS SOLI a baby is automatically the citizenship of the country he/she is born, however UK does not recognize this law. US does for example. If the baby is born there however he/she will need to opt for rights to residency. The parents would not get to live there unless they find jobs and are sponsored. The baby's rights are baby's rights-just as they are here in the US.

I think the baby would be, All depends if the babies birth is registered in the UK. If it is then They possibly do have "a right " to live in this country,

How else are there so many immigrants in this country, that cant speak a word of english,

(also im not a racist but please tell me they are white)

My wife is an American, born in the UK. Up till a certain age she had the right to opt for British citizenship.

I wouldn't have thought that a visitor - essentially a tourist - giving birth in a different country confers the nationality of the land in which the birth took place, but I am interested to see what other people think of this one.

Good question.

this is your cousin your talking about..because you gave him and his wife a place to stay ..you think you are entitled to know every thing that are personal to them ..what gives you the right to stick your big nose in to there affairs..
I hope they are from one of the E.U countries so they can stay
indefinitely in U K and have there baby here and many more baby's . I wish they knew what two faced person you are.. I am glad your not my cousine

Well i tell you i don't know the answer to this but as an American married to an UK citizen that has to wait her freaking turn to get over there I'm am extremely angered by this. i say keep the kid and deport their butts. need room for people that actually try to do things the legal way.
