There is a spiritual gift given by the Holy Spirit at Pentecost that enables many believers to speak in a language they had never learned before. The purpose for this gift was to help spread the gospel to those Jews visiting Jerusalem at Pentecost. There is no Scriptural grounds for that gift to have ceased. However, the gift of languages (tongues) is the most counterfeited gift followed by prophecy. If you see someone speaking in tongues today it is more than likely fake. Most all Pentecostal/Charismatic churches today teach erroneously that those gifts are available simple for the asking. This is not true. When you see a whole congregation speaking in tongues, they are spiritually perverted by Satan-and the purpose for this is to drive potential converts away from the church-it works.

This is a very complex question, as it has different meanings. Frequently when people believed in say a negative way, devil witchcraft, they can call the "alternate secret language "speaking in tongues". To other people it can be interpreted as a "Foreign Language", HOWEVER, MOST often you are correct . It is a very carefully selected "gibberish", know only to certain members.... Hope this helps..

When a person speaks in tongues then they are talking God's language. No one can translate it without the Holy Spirit being in them. And the person cannot decide when to speak in tongues and when not because the Holy spirit is the one talking and not the actual person. If they do claim to talk in tongues whenever they please then they are impostors who are led by Lucifer. And the language cannot be studied because it's God's language.

It's gibberish. Linguists have studied the phenom, but come back empty. It's part of the allure for those to say that "GOD" is speaking through them, but it's only the believers, (ie: members of their church) who can understand what's being said. Seems pretty convenient to me. Kinda like saying, "O.K. the winning lottery numbers as chosen by one of the players are:......"

It depends on what kind of professional. A professional psychic could translate it. And a professional pyschologist may be able to translate it. But professional translators--no. The tongues that they speak in are no human tongues.

I have known of people who have spoken in actual tongue and had it translated into another language. That is pretty rare. For the most part "tongues" is a prayer language between you and God not shown in public display like a lot of people do. It is really bad to just start rambling on in jibber jabber because it is just rambling in vain.

Tongues is only a language. These folks in the churches today say they are speaking in tongues are only speaking in jibberish. They need to do a study on it.

It's just gibberish, they totally misinterpreted what speaking in tongue means. It just means the ability to speak in other languages than your own, that's all.

It's gibberish, but then, so is what those people are saying when they're NOT speaking in tongues.
