well...normally your blood is circulated through your whole body, and if your at school taking class, much of it flows through your brain and central nervous system, making you feel awake, but after you eat, the blood needs to go to your colon "digestive system" to help power the digestive process, and so less blood gets to your brain.

There are two reasons, one are you eating at the wrong time for your body, two are you eating the wrong foods.
The body uses energy to digest the food, if you feel tired then the body is using a lot of energy to do this which could mean that either it was not hungry at that time or your body has been given food that it cannot digest easily. IE the wrong food for your body chemistry. Not every ones body can digest the same food. Don't believe all the food commercials.

Your body takes about 30 minutes to an hour to start processing the food you ate. But before then, you are running out of fuel. As you put the food in your mouth, you taste it, and the brain starts signaling for more insulin (to process the food and put it in the cells). So you are low on fuel, the insulin is putting what little fuel you have left into your cells, and the replacement fuel hasn't been refined yet. That puts you into a low blood sugar state, which can cause tiredness.

Suggestion: Eat a handful of almonds about 45 minutes before lunch.

Too many carbs or too heavy lunch. Try a salad and some chicken or something. Carbs can leave you feeling sluggish. Also eat 6 small meals a day instead of 3 large ones. Drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Do you eat heavy or over-eat? Maybe that's the reason. Its rightly said that afternoon meals should be very light so that they don't make you lazy or tired. You will be able to work well if you eat light. Rather the dinner may be well eaten so that you you get a good night sleep.

I would guess you are probably eating something stodgy which is rich in simple carbohydrates (white bread sandwich, baguette or pasta?). This tends to cause lethargy during digestion - something to do with the sugars and the effect on your own blood sugar level. Try eating complex carbs for lunch ie. brown bread or a baked spud with the skin on.

The list of possible reasons:
1) you've eaten something thats difficult for your tummy to digest, it could be the 'wrong' food for this weather. When its hot you must drink a lot and eat light food such as salad, fruit, vegetables, nothing greasy. Appetite, therefore moods and general feeling changes according to weather.
2) your sugar levels not quite right/ could be diabetic
3) your size could also dictate tiredness, are you obese?

Hope this helps.

The correct answer to this question is insulin secretion. When you ingest calories your blood sugar rises. When this happens your body secretes insulin to deposit he blood sugar into the mitochondria of you cells or convert it to fat to be stored in adipose tissue.Sometimes the insulin will clear too much sugar from your bloodstream resulting in temporary hypoglycemia. If you cut down on your carbohydrate intake during lunch this may help you to avoid such a reaction. Some of this phenomenon is due to basic bio rhythms and may not change.

i believe your digestive system when full/post meal is using more of your bloodstream to assist in consuming/carrying the nutrients to the rest of your body which needs nourishment/oxygen via your bloodstream. this is also the reason why it ir strongly urged that folks do not swim for awhile after a meal because the rest of the body competes which your digestive system ( for blood) and this is sometimes the cause of painful cramps/cramping a potentially deadly situatiion when one is swimming in water over their head in depth.
