Ramsons (Allium ursinum) family Liliacae
There are usually 2 shiny leaves with parallel veins, and a triangular flowering stem about 1 foot high.
The long bracts at the base of the group of flowers soon wither and fall off.
The flowers which, in the wild form are white, have 6 petal-like segments 6 stamens and a 3 lobed ovary with a single style
The plant smells of onions, lasts through the winter as a bulb, and is common in damp and shady places throughout Britain

Uninterestingly enough it's just called Wild Garlic, not sure of its Latin name but it is a member of the allium family. It is strong though, so use it sparingly. It grows all over the place where I live in southern Gloucestershire and you can smell it when you're driving around sometimes - not that pleasant first thing in the morning! Hope this helps.

In West Virginia they're called ramps. There is a ramp festival in a small town there in the northwest part of the state.
