I doubt it. Car quality has gone down in the last two decades.
Case in point: my friend had an 85ish VW Rabbit, 5 speed diesel. The thing went to 300k miles. An awesome car. I'd like to see a car nowadays do that. Regardless, we won't find out for a year or two, when the problems start popping up.

i disagree with the assumption that vehicle quality has declined. quite the contrary people!! engineering and design has escalated in the last 20 years. overall defects for all vehicles have declined by 40% since the 70s. engine efficiency and performance has taken light year steps since the gas hogs of the 70s. the problem here in the states has been our desire for more and more power therefore offsetting any efficiency gains. in the 70s most engines were lucky to produce 1 hp for every inch of displacement. now we see many engines producing 2 hp for every inch of engine displacement. overhead valve and multiple valves continue to produce loads of horse power and improve the longevity of the modern engine. also modern lubricants have taken light year steps. synthetic oils and sealed bearings and 150k mile anti-freeze reduce overall maintenance of modern engines. the next leap is the diesel engine is set to take a step toward the future and will become very popular in the USA in the next ten years. as for the comment on engines going 300k?? well alot of that has to do with two things. one is how you drive and the other is maintenance. if you run a vehicle into the ground and do only minimal maintenance yes you will never see 300k or even 200k,. but if you take care of your equipment like i do then it is very possible. i have a vehicle with 261k on it now that i drive to work everyday while my new truck sits in the garage!!!!!!!!
