1 The lions eat meat.
A specific group of lions eat meat. It doesn't imply all lions eat meat.

'The lion' sounds a bookish (stiff) expression. You can see it in an encyclopedia. For example, the lion is the second largest living cat.

3 Lions eat meat.
It's the most commonly used expression.

'A lion' is used to express how one lion acts. For example, a lion may attack a human when it is hungry.

If your talking about a habit that applies to lions in general then:

'Lions eat meat' - this is correct!

If you use 'the' then you are talking about a specific lion or a specific group of lions.

If you use 'a' then that is a little bit to vague and doesn't really represent every lion.

Are these test questions by any chance - ha ha!

I hope this has been of some help to you.

If the subject is plural, I would say that it would be #1, #3 is incorrect, it would be Lions eat meat, not lions eats meat.

If it was singular, #2 and 4 would be correct.

Good luck.

Konnichiwa

It would depend on how many lions you are talking about! Lions eat meat but a lion eats meat too.

Depending on the meaning you wish to convey, each is correct. For example:

What do lions eat? Lions eat meat. (Lions in general)
What will the lions be fed? The lions eat meat. (Specific lions)
What will the lion be fed? The lion eats meat. (one specific lion)
What do animals eat? A lion eats meat. (not the tigers or zebras)

P.S. You misspelled animals. (amimals)

So would you teach me to play "go"? It is far more difficult than chess.
