You may be eligible for benefits depending on the severity of your symtoms. I was diagnosed 3 yrs ago w fibro and I am also bi-polar. I have continued to work but it gets hard when I have "flare-ups". I have been out on Short Term from my job for 2 months.
Ignore the ignorant who tell you this is a "lazy persons disease" that is BS. I cannot stand laziness and to be doing nothing but sometimes I am in so much pain. I CAN"T do anything. I have worked and paid taxes all my life but if I got on disability it would ruin me financially... what they give you is a joke!!! Try to find an understanding Dr. first of all who will treat your disease and not just your symtoms... I had to switch drs because my first doc just kept prescribing stronger and stronger pain meds. and I did not want to end up an addict.

"Fibromyalgia has long been considered a "wastebasket" diagnosis. However, in 1987, the American Medical Association (AMA) acknowledged fibromyalgia as a true illness and a potential cause of disability. Many well-respected organizations, such as the AMA, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the World Health Organization (WHO) have accepted fibromyalgia as a legitimate clinical entity."
http://www.emedicine.com/pmr/topic47.htm
With the AMA and an experienced disability attorney on your side, you should qualify based upon your local law and the degree of your disability.
An extensive list of friendly articles explaining how to go about filing for disability when you have fibromyaligia is found here:

Ignore all those idiots telling you to go back to work!!
I developed this condition and ME after the birth of my son, its just exhausting and painful. You will be entitled to benefits if you get a doctors note explaining that you have this condition and are unfit for work. The good news is that its not for life as 2 years on Im loads better and am back to normal activities!!

Yes it is a disability. Don't see why not. File for Social Security Disability.
It will take OVER 2-3 yrs to get it. YOU will get denied the first time.
GET YOURSELF A GOOD ATTY that deals with Social Secuity Disablity. ITS FREE. They ONLY get paid WHEN you get your disabiltiy. They ONLY take a % of what you get. It's all prearranged. The government pays them!
