I reckon having two people dealing with prescription drugs (ie, the doctor and the pharmacist) means theres less likelihood of you taking something that could harm you, because both ask what your allergies are, what other drugs you're taking, etc, and one may notice a potential problem the other missed.
Also, a lot of stuff you get from the pharmacy doesnt require a prescription, but shouldn't just be sold by people who dont have pharmacist training. If there were no pharmacists, we'd have to go to the doctor for these, meaning longer queues at the doctors, and more cost for the patient.

we need bio-pharmacologists and pharmacologists to work in lab to find new drugs for old diseases
but any biochemist or a 2-3 years school in pharmaceutics is OK to sell drugs in a pharmacy
this is just an opinion

Yes! we need someone to differentiate between the thousands of diffenerent drugs out there, not to mention the many doses and strentghs of each drug available. Who else would make sure your prescirption was filled correctly and and not kill you?
