Drink beer, Watch TV sleep..... HaHa just kidding. I think the roles of husband depend on the situation you are in. Just like wife. Some wives stay at home with the kids and cook and clean. Some wives work& do both. Some work and the husband cleans and takes care of the children(yes it really does happen) In any situation the husband and wife should sit down and discuss eachothers roles. Equality is the most important factor, if there isn't equality there will be arguements and anger. Talking and equality are the two big marrige goals!!!

The answer to this question varies from marriage to marriage.
Whatever the two agree upon and what works for them.
The problems start when husband and wife have different expectations. I for one can not imagine someone going into a marriage without knowing what you both expect from one another. In my family, our roles are very clear. He is the provider, the Head of the Household and a very loving and caring Husband.
I respect him as He respects me.
My role is to be the caretaker of our home and children.I do the finances. He respects my opinions as I respect his decisions.
But what works for us obviously does not work for everyone.

Practical as in what I actually expect him to do? I actually expect him to sit on his butt and let me have the pleasure of doing all the work.
What I believe he should do? I believe that all partners in a relationship are to share the chores and financial burdens evenly. If you can't work to pay a bill then at least handle the bills, if you are able to do so. Chores should be divided evenly. Evenly as in, with my situation, I do the bathroom and kitchen (this is abnormal and only when we have major cleaning to do). I don't mind doing these areas and would rather do them than a room that is small, dirty, and infested with spiders. He doesn't mind doing the infested room but he doesn't like doing the bathroom or the kitchen. This is even for us. So you have to communicate about what you do and don't like to clean and try and be fair about it.
Good luck.

The two of you should be able to discuss that and make a decision together. If you can't you have a much bigger problem than the one you are asking about, and may need counseling. Do not have a pre-set idea about this. Every family is different, and the choices that you and your partner make do not need to match the rest of society.

Traditionally, he is the head / Representative of the family & the provider. Men are also less emotionally charged & sometimes are able to make hard choices based on logic alone vrs emotions. They help to balance out a women.

Work for a living, bring home the paychecks and I'll take care of everything else. Don't give me no lip about anything and we'll get along just fine.
