When I get my perscription for a 4 month supply of medication why will they only give me 1 month at a time? Can I request the whole perscription up front?

Some people tend to self medicate, having only 1 month supply available at a time will make sure that you have enough to take properly for the entire 4 months...you can't lose them, take too many of them, or sell them (in bulk anyway).

That has happened to me also. The pharmacist told me to ask the insurance company why.It is some time a pain to have to go back every 4 weeks to get another 4 weeks. By the way I couldn't get anyone from the insurance co on the phone who knew anything at all why. So typical of them.

I asked a pharmacist the same question. She said it helps patients without insurance to purchase medication. Several payments rather then one big payment.

Such as one medication I am taking is prescribed 3 months 90 pills,. 30 pills costs $124.00, 90 pills would costs $372.00,.

I know this is one of the reasons, but I'm sure thiers others.

As BH says to stop you taking more than you should just because you think you need to.

Also, to stop overdose and to stop people selling it.
