"Americans speak English" is the most natural.

"The Americans speak English" and "An American speaks English" would be okay as well, but neither one means ONLY what you want to say (they could also be referring to specific Americans).

"The American speaks English" CAN'T mean what you want to say--it can only refer to one specific American.

joejapan8. I must apologise to you on behalf of all of those who don't see the problem here!

As I answered in your last question, it's not about which is more natural, they are all natural and grammatically correct.

It's the situation - the context in which they are used. They may seem similar to many people; however, I'm an English teacher and can tell you that they are all natural - it just depends what you want to get across.

If you're talking about a country as a whole - you should say:

'The Americans speak English'.

The American speaks English.
OR
Americans speak English.

But if you don't want to get messed up in English right now, it is better to use "Americans speak English" currently 'cause it is more basic and also easier to understand.
