I don't think that it is "prone" to infection. Just keep it clean and you shouldn't have any problems.

You should contact the stoma nurse educator at your hospital about keeping the skin around your stoma free of s/s of infection. Usually this is by cutting the flange close to the bud and keeping the area clean and dry. they have powders, paste and creams to help you care for your stoma. Be as educated as possible about keeping your stoma healthy.

keep it clean and dry, for the most part you should be alright. A&D works well for prevention, especially if the area seems red or swollen.

If it becomes open then it is definately prone to infection. Lantiseptic ointment works great, just make sure that the area is dry before application.
