Funny fact about sadness: It needs a lot more energy to be sad, then to be happy! Mad that one isn't it?
To change your mood from sadness to happiness, try to think about what is really good in your life or just leave the flat for a walk and start getting really cheesy sort of romantic by seeing in everything and everyone something beautifully and special.
You will feel stupid at the beginning but actually it starts to feel so easy, that you will start laughing and giggling about people who look sad and blue. That will make some of them smiling back at you and so it will go on and on.... It is great fun!

To overcome sadness is to count your blessings instead of gathering those sad thoughts, and always set your mind to the brighter side of life. God Bless You dude!

You didn't give enough detail as to the REASON for sadness. If it's situational, then most likely it will pass with time. Sharing your thoughts with friends + family will help.
If chronic, see a doctor and get a prescription for medication &/or therapy.
