I have a win xp pro SP2 installation disk. My desktop already has Win XP pro sp2. This computer has not been formated for last 3 years or so. So, the reason for me wanting to delete everything and wanted to start fresh. Ok this is what happens, I set the bios boot sequence as CD first, followed by hard drive and floppy respectively.
Now when I boot, the thing goes straigt to win Xp login. There is no sign of any thing remotely to do with the XP setup process.

However, once I am logged in I can initiate installation, but then it will keep all the old files which beats my purpose of reinstallation which was to delete old partitions and everything and start new....
Please advice and help...

how can i reinstall xp when I cant even boot from it?

thanks in advance for your advice and help

Start installation from the winXP during installation process there will be a dialog box with 2 buttons Accessabality Option and Adavanced Options. Press the advanced button now check mark "I want to select the Drive during Installation". Now will get a option of selecting the drive of installation (the option will come after ur computer restarts during installation), and when it comes select format, it will delete all data from the drive and u will hav a fresh start.

Try using the Windows XP Setup disks for floppy boot install. It allows you to initiate the installation of Windows without booting from the CD-ROM drive. The link is below.

If are able to install at windows environment than your windows CD and your CD drive is working fine.
Please look out for this signs after pass the bios booting ......when reboot, you should see your HDD-LED blink follow by the Floppy now your CD drive and now you will see on your monitor a line something like this....." Hit any Key to boot from CD....." hit any Key except 'ENTER'. It should take you to the installation.
