Well... I'm not a father. However my real dad was a deadbeat most of my life.
Here's list of what I wish he would have took me to do:
Paintball war zone
Aquarium zoo
zoo
museum (be sure to take time sit and explain them about each thing, ask them for their opinion and try to debate with them about it. This will help them get interested into museum and use it wisely)
bbq with them (teach them about how to pick meats, how to pick charcoal, how to bbq, encourage them to choose between few stuff)
Hike
Camping

I am a Mom, and whatever you decide with the childrens input will be awesome. When I take the children anywhere they enjoy it but there is always a hesitation on everything I do, because maybe it will cost to much money or maybe we shouldn't stay out to late, but when their father takes them, he knows how much money to spend and how long he has to spend with them and whether it is an hour or a weekend he knows how to make that trip so awesome. So you decide what would be great, if it is a weekend around the home or away from home, and always keep laughing no matter what goes wrong. It will be a weekend they will never forget.

It never mattered where I went with my dad, it was all about being around him and doing the things he did. I wanted him to treat me like a friend and an adult. The best memories are lying under a car and helping him work on it. I did the stuff all my friends wished they could do with their dads. I guess I was lucky in that my dad did manly things and I wanted to be just like him.
