15, 14 being the minimum in my mind. Usually any time before that is useless. Who are they going to call that is that important anyway. Make them pay for some of the bill and if your smart don't give them the internet equipped verizon phones -- you can download stuff that costs big money through that. At least make them earn their phone and take it away if a 'situation' should arise. Good luck!

If you are talking about a cell phone that would have a contract I would have to say that really depends on the responsibility that the child has shown. I would suggest using a trac phone or some type of cell phone that you would have to buy minutes for. If they use the minutes sparingly then that would show some concern about the minutes and how responsible that they are. I personally have already had this talk with my daughter who is 9 years old. I would per fer her to be at least in her teens but she would differently have to show that she was mature enough to handle the responsibility so that I would not crock over the cell phone bill when it came in.

I think the perfect age for them to get a cellphone is at the age of 16. An age where they can be responsible with it where they wouldn't go over their minutes and wouldnt' lose their phone.

If they are staying after school for any length of time, then send one. Send one, and keep it turned off. If they need to use it, they can use it in an emergency situation . Teach them how to turn it on, etc. Minimum age would be 7. There is a cell phone out called FLY. Go to the TARGET website and see about it. You can purchase one and it comes with minutes already on it. I believe there is litte to no radiation. You don't have to purchase a contract with it!!

I got my kids cell phones when they were 14 and 15. I did this because they started having social lives and I am disabled. They have unlimited time so they use them all the time. I can get a hold of them when ever I need to and it frees up our home phone. They think I got them the phones for them but they were actually for me. They were probably the best things I have ever bought.

As soon as the are old enough to dial the numbers. They have cell phones for little kids that will only dial their parents and 911. If your child is in trouble, how old do they need to be to call you?

Really it depends on the situation and need. If you beleive your child is mature enough to use it properly and at the right time then go for it. As long as they do not abuse it time wise, like effecting school work and phone curfew then go for it.

I believe that it totally depends on the child. Some are able to except the resonsibility at an early age and other are not.
