Your desktop-folder is NOT the place. A friend or family member might see it as rubbish and delete it.
Also: by default, the desktop-folder is on the C-drive. If that harddisk fails, you lose both your downloaded email as well as your backup!
Buy an USB-(hard)drive.
If you use Eudora Light, you can easily grab the emailfolder and copy (hold the mouse button while moving) it to the USB-drive.
If you use Outlook (Express)... Good luck, it's hazardous :).

If using Andoryu's advice: NEVER put the CD/DVD-recordables in sunlight, you will surely lose the backup. Also test after the backup if everything is readable again.

Ah you meant your 'desktop PC'? While having the mail only on internet right now? It completely depends on your emailaccount. What do you use, gmail or yahoo mail or...?

use a POP3 connection. If you aretalking about Yahoo mail for backup, use YPOPs client, similar to Outlook that lets you to download emails from yahoo to your hard drive. The YPOPs is specially designed for Yahoo mail, and can be download from

is the right click working on copy to shortcut,and then, paste to desktop?
thunderbird,firefox, java supported application such as toolbar?
