Well Its not common , so its rare . :)
Its a good name , so i wonder why its not common ?

dhananjay was the name of arjun in Mahabharata though it is not a common name but no one for sure will like to keep it in eastern part of India as just last year a man named dhananjay was hanged to death for raping a 10 yr old girl and people have started hating it like anything

It is a beautiful name. It is rare for persons who have not heard it before but common if one has come across the beautiful name in the Indian (Hindu) Mythology.
