The EU has nothing like the military strength of the USA:-
1. The EU's economic power is massively inferior to the USA, so they cannot afford as much military materiel.
2. The technology of EU equipment such as the Eurofighter is a generation behind that of the Americans e.g. in relation to "stealth"
3. With its many separate countries, the political structure of the EU does not enable European forces to combine effectively outside NATO, in which the USA is dominant. In other words, the EU lacks effective command and control.
4. Language differences are a major issue for the effective organisation of military forces at the European level.
5. European forces are in practice dependent on US facilities, for instance for satellite navigation, and could not operate independently.
6. US intelligence, for all its limitations, would walk all over the EU if European countries tried to operate separately militarily.

As of now, with their armies combined from every nation part of the EU, they just about match the size of our own army. Though we have better tech, they are not very far behind us. By 2007, their numbers are going to increase a great deal with I believe 5-7 super carriers, battle groups that would be able to deploy in any part of the world within 24 hours among many other things. They can also support a larger army because the Euro is gaining value while the Dollar is losing its value.

There is no EU military but there are talks of starting one. The EU military is based on each countries separate military strength.
I would guess that all EU countries combined would make a larger force than the US, at least in the number of ground troops. But the big advantage the US has is in aircraft carriers and attack class and ballistic missile launching submarines.

It's not just technology and firepower which will decide the result of a war. It's the men behind machines, and since EU will continue to be divided, US will always be superior to them,

No point in the EU having an army, they would never deploy it. Talking is what they do.
