My children started with Mama, and are now on to Mommy. I am sure as they get older it will be Mom. I use to believe as you did, but mama, mommy and mom are terms of endearment, not respect. The first time you hear "mama" from their little mouths is even more special than the first "I love you".

Mommy, Ma, Mom or Mama. I think Mother is a little too formal.
It's more of a stages of life thing though. When they are babies it's "mama". When they are toddlers it's "mommy". When they are bigger it's Mom or Ma. Just out of brevity.

Growing up, I always wanted to be called by my first name because I felt that in giving a surname, my children might think that I am better than them. You can still respect someone without thinking they are better than you. Now that I am older and thinking about children, I wonder if it will mean more to hear them say Mommy rather than Sandy.

My son is 2 1/2 yrs old and the first time I heard him refer to me as "daddy" my heart instantly melted, I think whatever your child at whatever age calls you it will be music to your ears so I kinda really don't understand the question, I never gave it much thought. I love my son with all that I am,I don't think I'd care one way or the other what he calls me by as long as it's something nice!!

Mommy or Momma, but preferably mommy.
I think Mother is to "up tight" sounding.
But whatever they choose to call me (within boundaries) is perfectly fine with me.
