Depends on the couple. Marriage is different than dating seriously, even if you're living together, so just give yourself time.

The questions annoy me too. There are so many alternatives to relationships, but people are still obsessed with when when when. It amazes me that people are so interested in your wedding plans, especially since I know so few people who are happily married.

I was with my man for 3 1/2 years. We almost got married a year earlier but decided we wanted to wait for another year. That was for several reasons. School, money, and our hearts.
Some people are together for a long time. I know a friend who recently was married and has 2 kids with this guy and they have been together for 7 years. Some people get married after 6 months.

You really have to decide this on your own. You know when you are ready. You know in your heart that you never want to be with somebody else. You have to make this decision on your own, don't let somebody else make this decision.

I personally think a couple should be together over 5 years before getting married. Alot of these couples that just jump into the relationship and get married don't fully get to know the person and usually end up in divorce. That's just my opinion....

Well that is something you will just know. You can't set a time for it. You will know when it's time to say I do.
I know ppl who have waited for years and they ended up divorced later and I some that have been married forever. However, I know some that got married in less than a year that have the same outcomes. I was only with my husband 4 months when we got married and we are as happy as can be. When ya know, ya know.

I saw an article that said the ideal time for a healthy relationship before you go down that path is 1-3 years. Shorter isn't enough. Longer may be indicative that you have had something holding you back that might mean marriage isn't the right choice. Sounds like you're at about the right point.

it really depends on the couple. If you arent ready, then no need to worry about it. It bugs me how people make a big deal out of a couple who has been together for awhile, but not married. Whether you are married or not, your still the same couple no matter what.

Simply tell people that when the two of you are ready ___ My son & now daughter -in -law. waited 10 years. They wanted to make sure that marriage was what they both wanted & nothing else. They are as happy as can be & started a family.

Well you should get married when you and your loved one is ready and not a second sooner...me and my fiance have been together for five years and are finally going to tie the knot in Nov. but we waited until we were ready not when everyone else was ready for us to do it...Good Luck...

I would say at least another year. By that time you will have gotten through the "honeymoon" period and seen each others "true" selves.

But then again, no one says you HAVE to get married.
