he used to smoke pot a lot, then he tried killing himself now hes really clinging to me as if, if i left he would try to kill himself again or his life would be ruined, or over, like it were the end of the world, kind of thing.

he saw a counselor and no longer smokes pot, he does care about me, and he wouldnt kill himself i know that much, but i dont want to dump him, he's nice to me and he cares about my feelings, but he used to smoke pot about 1 year ago and stop after that happened.

I think you should dump him, hun. I know this is the answer you don't want to hear but he really isn't good for you. I have had guys like him before and they really got on my nerves after a while because they were so clingy and couldn't control their emotions (or the drugs come to that, one in particular used to do drugs, gave up when I came in then started again shortly after). This may sound cold and shallow but there are plenty of other guys out there who are (let's face it) better than he is and you deserve better as you sound like a nice and respectable person. But at the end of the day, it's up to you.

What the others said. He sounds like a real nut and you should be his girlfriend not his therapist.
He's definitely blackmailing you. Get out now while you still have some strength and self-esteem left.
I used to go out with a loser like that (without the pot-smoking). I was with him and he still killed himself. Took me YEARS to get over the worst of it. Will never totallly be able to forget. He was always trying to bring me down at the same time as clinging to me as if I was his saviour. He used to say things like I was getting fat to undermine me. People, I was 5ft 10" and 140lbs at the time - wanker). He thought I was too good for him - well turns out I was!
He sponged off people constantly - owed his mother £000s - never went to work so he'd have more time to drink and mope and spy on me and accuse me of having affairs when I was at work. You get the picture.
If he's going to kill himself he'll do it with or without you. No-one normal kills themselves over a break-up. He is just manifesting all his feelings of self-hatred onto you.
You just don't need this selfish cowardly freak in your life. Whatever you give, it'll never be enough. He'll suck you dry.
Hand him over to a psychiatrist and
DUMP HIM FAST!!!!!

sweetie its called emotional black mail and in my humble opionion he is always abusive towards you emotionally. I mean come on love, he has got you STUCK in a pretty awful situation by blackmailing you into thinking he will kill himself if you left. Sweeie you have to think about YOURSELF and YOUR FUTURE. do you want to be with him forever? NO! so stop making excuses for hanging around and LEAVE! 90% chance he wont kill himself...its just his way of keeping you. and IF he does, well then he is unstable and it had nothing to do with you! Inform his family / friends when you leave him so that he can become THEIR responsibility and they can keep a watch on him if you're really worried about him. all the best! hope it works out!
