Yesterday, my boyfriend was stung on his leg, & he thinks it was a bee because the stinger was left in him (he didn't see the bug). He thought he was fine, so he went swimming (this happened @ the beach). Later, at nite, the bite started hurting when he walked & 2day, it has become a big, red, swollen area. He says it feels like a constant pressure of a pain and he put some ice on it & took some ibprofin. Is this a normal reaction to a bee sting? Should he go to the doctor? Is it too late to treat it since he didn't treat it right after he was stung? He hasn't had any other symptoms of possible allergy or anything. Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Im a painter and get stung about 5 times a year, this is normal , especially if it's in a muscle spot, it's not worth the dr's fee to have him give you some penicillian, or antibiotic.
My stings get hard, red, and have throbbing pain that shoots to the bottom of my feet when I get stung from about knee height down or in the arms.
It itches and burns, im also not allergic to bee's.
Domn't use a tweezers to get the stinger out you will squeeze that bulb and drive venom in farther into your body.
My stings hurt for about 3 days on the 3rd day the itching and swelling goes down.

It should not be a LARGE swollen area. Nor should he be experiencing pain on the second day.
It sounds like he DOES have an allergy to their venom.
People who are allergic to bees, get the minor symptons, you described from the first time they are stung by one.
With each bee sting they incur, after that, the symptoms worsen and can even cause death if their bronchial tubes swell shut.
They can't breathe.
He definitly needs to see a doctor to have it looked at, to determine, if indeed, he has an allergy to them.
If he does, the next one would send him to the emergency room. He would have to be very careful not to be around ANY bees in the future.
It is possible that just the tip end of a jelly fish's tenticle grazed him. That would explain the large swollen area and persistant pain. That wouldn't be anything to worry about. Those stings hurt a whole lot and can last for days. Do you see a bright red streak in the area? If so, that is probably it. A jelly fish. OOO. They leave nasty stings.
Just have him have a doctor look at it.
It should have healed by now unless it was a jelly fish.

Sounds like a jelly fish sting to me. Most folks will have a small area around a bee sting that is irritated, but a large area sounds like a jellyfish to me. Bad reactions to bee stings can cause anaphylactic shock, where the throat swells shut. That can kill you. Depending on what beach/water you are talking about, it could get infected just from the pollution. As long as the area stops swelling and he isn't running a fever. Just use antiseptic and keep an eye on it. Sudden changes may be cause for alarm, so check with a doctor.

Anaphylactic shock is a reaction to a sting either from bees, bugs, spiders, all sorts of critters. It can be very serious, even life threatening, even though your case sounds pretty mild -- if that's what it is.
Definitely get it checked out because if it IS anaphylactic shock, the next sting could potentially kill. If the docs find that he does have an alergy, they may give him a shot of epinephrine (sp) to carry with him at all times in case of another sting.
Get it checked out. Spending $20 for a needless doc's appointment is better than spending $5,000 on funural arrangements later.

Perhaps its some allergic reaction that triggered the swelling and pain. consult a physician immediately and have it treated to prevent it from getting worse.

Maybe something to do with the salt water?
Could be infected. Maybe just keep a close eye on it for right now?
