I noticed boys, girls and adults making that ugly sound and spitting their fluids out everywhere even inside a house!

it seems to be true in many asian countries. It's really bad in China -- if you wonder why singapore has huge fines for spitting -- you can see what happens if there isn't a law

Also Koreans have all had their TB injections. So they are at lower risk than we are of catching any nasty diseases.

I don't appreciate if one of my friends is spitting within a metre radius of me, and Im not afraid to tell them.
One of my friends has such a bad habit of doing it, especially when he is smoking, that he actually spat on a Policeman one night by accident. It was a super humbling experience for him, and I think he makes more of an effort these days.

However, im appreciative of the other things that they do, that westerners should make more of an effort to do. Such as removing shoes (I've done this forever..) when going into a house.

Hey , remember in the Movie"My big fat Greek wedding" when the little kids walked down the lisle and the grandmother was spitting on them? It was to ward off bad spirits or blessing them or something like that. Do you spit when you sneeze??

Every culture and every country, and even sub-cultures in the same country has its own set of acceptable behaviors. What you may think is disgusting is OK in one country, and what you think is perfectly acceptable may be disgusting in another country or culture. Ethnocentricism (a species of racism) is the result of thinking that your own culture is perfect and everyone else wrong. Americans think it is OK to blow your nose in public; Koreans think it is rude. Americans think that students should look at the teacher to show they're attentive; in Ethiopia, it is considered rude to look at the teacher when he/she is speaking. The OK gesture for Americans is considered obscene in Brazil. Thumbs up in the US is an obscene gesture in Nigeria and also Australia.
