I have long hair as well that I want to cut but not too much off. I think layers will look nice with thick hair, so that's what I might do. Or try getting side swept bangs.

Put layers in it, it will thin it out a bit and give it texture and you can keep the length. I have thick hair, and it gives me a headache to put it up without the layers. Start with long layers (just at the bottom) and see how you like it, this won't be so dramatic a change. Then if you really like it get shorter layers. hope this helps!

put it in a ponytail. or if you think that your hair is flat, put on two scrunchies. or maybe a high ponytail. or you could get corn rolls. if youre looking for body, then get a curly perm . or you could get someone to braid up all your hair , and then you sleep in it overnight, then in the morning, take the braids out and... .voila! you have waves, but thats if your hair can hold curls. oh well, judging on your description, your hair is way different from mine(im african-american). so if my advice diddnt help, go to a hair salon.

you should shave your head it a lot easier and saves lots of time. plus you wont have to buy all your jell and crap. and it will be a lot cooler during the day.
