begin by placing a potty in the bathroom and each time you go the bathroom place your little one on the potty.
Place them on the potty throughout the day and I would recommend you do so
on waking
about half hour after breakfast
10 minutes before lunch
half hour after lunch
about 3pm
ten minutes before dinner
half hour after dinner
and before bed.
It will no doubt be a matter of hit and miss for some months. Don't worry some kids are not trained until 3 or 4 and it is not that the parent is doing anything wrong it is simply that every one learns things at a different rate.
When your little one has successes in the potty say some encouraging words and let them see what has happened and that you are pleased they have done the right thing...
Forget about mishapps... they will happen... take your time with this.. allow your little one to learn at their pace..

The baby starts showing telltale signs of wanting to relieve herself at a very early stage (around 5 months). It's good to be able to recognize these signs of the baby - usually the limbs will stiffen up for a few seconds, the kid may also make some sounds. If left unattended, it may wet the diaper. Once you can recognize these, you can gently take the baby to the bathroom / potty and keep it there for a few seconds. If she doesn't like it, let it be and don't force.
It's a good idea to take the baby to the bathroom once after it wakes up from a nap.
I've also observed that after the baby's been playing for a few minutes, lying on it's stomach or otherwise, it's likely to urinate.

When I tried potty training my son he was about the same age as your child. They say not to show disappointment when it fails and to praise like crazy if they do go. My son sat and sat and sat on his lil potty chair til there were rings on his butt. So, finally I just let him go and a the very day he turned 3 HE asked to go and that was it. From that day on he was potty trained. I gave different rewards for number 1 and number 2.

18 months can be young but if she/he is taking off her diaper and trying to use the potty start doing it. If not wait until he is 2yrs old.
Start by on the hour every hour taking him to the bathroom. At this young age you will want to get a potty stool for her to use. Do this for several days and see if he/she starts to go in on their own to try. If so then get rid of the diaper and put on underwear. Keep this up until they start going in on their own., It will happen overnight almost. Don't worry if it fails, just wait a while and try again later. At this age it is hard to know if they are really ready.

I became potty trained at 18 months because my best friend was 3 and was a slow learner. But, my mother never potty trained me, I did it on my own. If you bring your kid around someone being trained, they may also learn on their own.
Or it's just because I'm a genius. Who knows.

It's important to understand exactly what needs to be done and in what order to have your child fully potty trained. Check out this method http://pottytraining.toptips.org

You don't. You wait until the child is ready trying to force your child into underwear is barbaric, some children's bladders are not developed enough. Pullups are just as ridiculous, because once they are no longer used the child tends to go back to wetting their pants. Let your baby be a baby until HE is ready to grow up.
