Did He ever say, "Yikes, you're just too much of an outcast from society's norm. Either you change, or I'm not going to hang out with you ever again?"

When he cast the moneychangers from the temple for robbing the people as they entered the temple to make their sacrifice.

When he chose to teach and eat and visit with the despicable of life instead of the socialites.

When he chose working men to build his kingdom instead of pious men of renowned education of scriptures.

When he died on the cross for the unrighteous sinners from all time past, present, and to come because he couldn't stand the thought of even one having to spend an eternity in hell, separated from him.

He may not have done it with signs and megaphones, but he picketed the whole way of life for every segment of society and every race of people. He was well known about, but not popular. He didn't get positive media attention, but he made the most wanted posters. I'm glad he chose the foolish things of the world, or I might not have the relationship I so enjoy with him now.

Jesus hung out with sinners, tax collectors, and lepers. Translated to today's world, that's like hanging out with junkies, prostitutes, and AIDS patients. Outcasts were Jesus's specialty.

And yet Jesus preached change to everyone he spoke with - including the outcasts. Jesus's preaching encouraged his listeners to turn what they knew on its head. If someone treats us badly, repay him with kindness; if someone consistently lets us down, forgive him again and again; tend to our own shortcomings before berating others for theirs. That's a message of change if I ever heard one.
