Is there any good book about the poem which is helpful for girls to read in summer, if there is an explanation after every poem, it would even better.

There are several good collections available either from your local library or online resources (like BN.com or amazon).

We started with Robert Louis Stevenson's collection, "A Child's Garden of Verses" (usually pretty short and light) and then went to something even more fun, Shel Silverstein ("Where The Sidewalk Ends" and "A Light in the Attic", among others). There are also several collections geared more towards kids than adults ("Random House Book of Poetry for Children", chosen by Jack Prelutsky, 20th Century Children's Poetry Treasury, again chosen by Jack Prelutsky, "A Child's Anthology of Poetry", selected by Elizabeth Hague Sword). If you look these up in Amazon, they'll lead you to tons of other poetry anthologies for kids. I always look for works by well-known poets, as opposed to fluff written to fill a book.

After reading a poem, ask your children to explain what they think of the poem - how does it make them feel, what parts did they like best/least, what pictures does it bring to their minds, can they relate it to things they've done or places they've been, etc. The great thing about this method is that there are no right or wrong answers, because everyone's feelings/thoughts are different. Leave the deeper analyses until they're older.

I'm not sure but if you are sooooo worried about her knowing poetry you can get a book of poems from the library let her read them then ask her opinion and tell her your then if you have a computer you can google the author and the poem and you might find a poem explanation. i am a fifth grader going into 6th grade and i just wrote a poem for a contest and i won too. so I'll send you a poem and explanation of that and do some more research to help you find something.

god bless

"Where the Sidewalk Ends" by Shel Silverstein is a great one for all ages. It is available at any bookstore or library. Your librarian can also help you find other children's poetry selections. Generally, avoid explanations of poetry. She needs to learn to form her own opinions about literature. Poetry is open to so much interpretation by it's very nature. As someone who writes poetry, I wouldn't want any publisher tacking an explanation onto my work!

go to your local library and ask a librarian; they can provide you with some good suggestions. The only suggestion I know for kids is "Where the Sidewalk Ends", can't remember the authors name but it is full of great poems for kids.
