my hair is pretty long...and healthy, I think someone might want to re-use it...i mean better than just trashing it right?

Absolutely! I donated fourteen inches about two years ago. My hair is almost grown completely back and some child has had a great wig for two years! It is an awesome thing to do, although you will never know who gets yours in particular - but I just pretend that any kid I see could be wearing my hair! They completely clean it, and sometimes even dye it before they put it in a wig. Go on, do it. C'mon, do it! Just make sure you leave enough hair on your head so that you don't end up miserable that you cut it all off. Eventually, you can become a "surrogate" hair grower for a bunch of kids! Good luck!

Generally, to donate to Locks Of Love, your hair has to be 10 inches long at the shortest layer, dye-free, mostly grey and white free, and healthy. I have never been able to stand growing my hair that long, but my mother had hair that she kept in a braid down to her waist from the 60's until a few months ago, when she participated in a county-wide long hair contest and donation. She donated almost 24 inches of hair, and she was really glad she did it. Also, sometimes if you go to a hairdresser that works with Locks Of Love or other similar organizations, you can get your hair styled for free or at a discount.

I actually have cut my long hair twice in order to donate it to Locks Of Love. Unfortuantely, I have read up a bit on them since I first began cutting my hair and have now decided that, though I'd love to donate my hair to a similar cause, it will not be Locks Of Love.

Locks Of Love will not use American hair to make wigs. It will be sold off instead to other wig makers and will not be made to make wigs for those children (no matter how thick or long or otherwise acceptable it is).

Apparently Americans wash and stle their hair too much for it to be acceptable to the orginization's standards.

So yes, you still can donate to Locks Of Love, but it is, at best, unfortunately that they put forth an image that they will use your hair to make wigs for children who need hair, when in reality they will not.

I just did last month. It was great. I even got a free haircut because I donated my hair (Greatclips). My hair is short for summer and someone got a great wig also. Do it, you will never regret it.

Donating hair can be very fulfilling - and you get to try a great new length! I would highly suggest it, and if you hate it, it will grow back in time.

I haven't ever done it, but I would like to someday. I think it would really make you feel good to do something like this for someone else.
