We do NOT have any cats, however there are several (many) strays that seem to think they live at my house. How can I get rid of the cats? I do not want to kill them (I love animals), and they are too "scary" to let anyone near them to catch them. We have dogs and we have NEVER had a problem with fleas, now the yard is infested with fleas. Is it true that my flea problem is caused by the cats? I need these cats out of here... they have scratched my favorite car that I have wanted since I knew what a car was by climbing on it, they get in the trash, they are pest. Everyone has complained about them, but they are not mine, yet they seem to have become my problem! PLEASE GIVE ME SOME IDEAS ON HOW TO GET RID OF THESE CATS! Also, I do not throw leftover food out or anything for them to eat, so they are not hanging around waiting for scraps.

You can rent humane traps from animal shelters and some feed stores. There may be a small fee for the rental, but it's worth it.
You can take them all to the shelter. There may be a fee for that as well, again worth it.
Consider taking up a collection in the neighborhood.
Call the shelters and see if they will come out and take care of it themselves. If there are a lot of cats they may do it for free as taking care of a public nuisance. Especially if you make a complaint with the police.
There are shelters that specialize in feral (scary ones, like you have) cats. They may be willing to come get them, spay and neuter them, give them vaccines and find them a new home in the wild some where. Not the best solution, but away from you and maybe no charge. Look in the yellow pages.
There are also companies that will come out and get them. Look up wildlife retrieval companies in the yellow pages. It will be expensive, but again, pass the hat in the neighborhood and see if that will cover the cost.
You can try the cat repellent products at the pet store but chances are they will just go to a neighbor's house and remain a pain in the rear.
Good Luck

Try to find out how to contact the animal control officer in your locale. The police ought to be able to tell you if you call the non-emergency number. The animal control officer will catch them and either take them to the shelter or euthanize them.

This will not prevent new feral cats from moving into your neighborhood. In some places, there are organizations that catch feral cats, give them medical care, spay and neuter them, and return them to defend their territory from new, fertile feral cats. If that's the way to go, you'll maybe want to explore some pesticide solutions or consult an exterminator.

I have at least 6 feral cats living under my house, and I find them infinitely entertaining. My cats that live in the house (strays or the offspring of strays) are treated for fleas and I don't seem to have a problem.

a few things:
cat's are not the cause to your flea problems it is summer fleas are more common this time of year.
cats don't tend to scratch car. if you want to protect your car get a car cover.

there really isn't much you can do, if you will move those cats (which is illegal btw) other will come instead. close your garbage cans.
you can contact the animal service in your town tell them about the cats and ask if they know where you can get free or low cost spays, that will keep the cat community in your neighborhood on a normal level.

you can contact an exterminator for the flea problem.

You could try checking w your local animal shelter as to maybe renting or borrowing some live traps & then take the animals to the shelter or huamne society...or try calling animal comtrol for you town or city. Being as these are ferel cats they should come out & help to take care of your problem!!! And "yes" your flea problem is most assuredly caused by these cats. GOOD LUCK!!

The way we got rid of stray cats in our yard.

1) Get big male cat and let him take care of it. (But you don't have cats and probably don't want any, right?)

2) Let dog chase cats. Works for me.

Also try spraying the cats with a water hose if you aren't living in a drought area.

the cats probably are ridding your property of mice and rats also this time of year chipmunks...
once the cats are sent away rodents will come back it is good to have a couple [ not a lot] of cats in the yard
