I had my wallet stolen out of my purse while I was shopping my daughter was running around and I must have stepped away for a minute, anyway I reported it to the police that day. The store told me they had cameras and would check for any activity, then the officer told me that the store did not have cameras and I explained that I spoke to the manager and they told me they had cameras. Then I had to go back again because there was some fraudulent activity on my bank account. The bank told me they should be able to track it and I found out where the charges were coming from however, they are unable to give me the information personally but if a officer called they could tell them. So I went to the police station again and gave them all the information and they still have done nothing about it. I would like to know why when your a victim, why are you left feeling like you did something wrong with no where to turn. I did all the work all they have to do is make a friggin call.

VERY UNFORTUNATE THAT YOU HAVE BECOME A VICTIM! YOU DID NOTHING WRONG!!! PAYING ATTENTION TO THE SAFETY OF YOUR CHILD IS "NEVER WRONG"! THE PURSE AND OTHER ITEMS CAN BE REPLACED.

I AM A POLICE OFFICER AND YOU ARE THE VICTIM OF WHAT IS CALLED A PETIT LARCENY (IN MOST STATES). THIS IS A MISDEMEANOR CRIME. THAT MEANS THAT IF THE SUSPECT IS CAUGHT AND CONVICTED HE/SHE WILL SPEND UNDER ONE YEAR IN JAIL **MAXIMUM PENALTY**. MORE REALISTICLY THE SUSPECT WOULD SPEND UNDER FIVE DAYS IN JAIL AND THEN BE RELEASED ON UNSUPERVISED PROBATION. THIS MEANS THAT IF THEY DO NOT GET "!!CAUGHT!!" AGAIN IN A SET AMOUNT OF TIME THE REST OF THE PUNISHMENT IS ELIMINATED COMPLETELY! THIS IS DETERMINED BY THE COURT NOT THE POLICE.
THIS PROCESS WILL TAKE APPROXIMATELY EIGHTEEN HOURS OF INVESTIGATION TO "POSSIBLY" DEVELOP A SUSPECT. THAT IS ***IF*** THE STORE CAMERAS ACTUALLY RECORD (NOT CONTOLLED BY YOU OR THE POLICE). THE MAJORITY OF SYSTEMS THAT DO RECORD ARE OF SUCH POOR QUALITY THAT YOU COULD NOT SEE THE RACE OR GENDER OF ANYONE ON THE FOOTAGE. EVEN IF THE RECORDING IS OF THE HIGHEST DIGITAL QULAITY A PICTURE MUST THEN BE RECOGNIZED BY YOU (WHO DID NOT SEE THE CRIME), A STORE CLERK OR THE INVESTIGATOR THAT WAS ***HOPEFULLY*** ASSIGNED TO YOUR CASE WITHIN TEN DAYS OF THE RESPONDING OFFICERS REPORT (SOME STATES HAVE ELIMINATED AGENCY FOLLOW-UP INVESTIGATIONS ON THIS TYPE OF CRIME IN EFFORT TO SPEED HANDLING OF FELONY CASES AND MEET GOVERNMENT BUDGETS).

NOT A SIMPLE PROCESS AS YOU CAN SEE. REMEMBER THE RESPONDING OFFICER IS ASSIGNED TO GUARANTEE YOUR SAFETY UPON ARRIVAL AND GATHER INFORMATION FOR THE INITIAL REPORT. HE IS LIMITED BY TIME AND ORDERS AS TO WHAT HE CAN DO FOR YOU. NO ONE CAN LEGALLY "JUST CALL" AND GET ANY INFORMATION ABOUT YOU OR YOUR ACCOUNT. A SUBPOENA WOULD BE FILED ON YOUR BEHALF BY THE "INVESTIGATOR" IF ONE WAS ASSIGNED TO YOUR CASE. THE FRAUDULENT ACTIVITY INFORMATION ON YOUR ACCOUNT IS NORMALLY DISCLOSED TO YOU AFTER THE APPROPRIATE FORMS ARE COMPLETED BY YOU THE ACCOUNT HOLDER.

THE BANK IS THE ONE WHO APPEARS TO BE CONFUSED, NOT YOU OR THE RESPONDING OFFICER. BANKS HAVE VERY ADVANCED FRAUD INVESTIGATION TECHNIQUES AND NUMEROUS "INVESTIGATORS" ON THEIR PAYROLL. BY THE WAY ALL THEY INVESTIGATE IS BANK FRAUD FOR THE BANK NETWORK THAT PAYS THEM, HMMM!! NOTHING ELSE LIKE CAR CRASHES, FIGHTS, CHILD MOLESTATION, WELL YOU GET MY POINT! OH! THEY ALSO CHARGE YOU AN ACCOUNT FEE AND MAKE INTEREST ON YOUR MONEY TOO!

SORRY! BACK TO THE POINT YOU AND I, THE TAX-PAYERS, CAN NOT AFFORD TO HAVE THE POLICE PERFORM AN ACTIVE INVESTIGATION OF THIS CRIME. IT WOULD COST AROUND $540.00 (25 HOURS) FOR THE POLICE TO PERFORM THE BASIC INVESTIGATION TO MAKE AN ARREST AND ABOUT $450.00 (3 HOURS) FOR THE COURTS TO HEAR THE CASE.

YOU AND PROBABLY TWENTY OTHER PEOPLE IN A FIVE MILE AREA WERE VICTIMS OF THE EXACT SAME CRIME THAT DAY. FORTUNATELY ALL OF THE OTHER CRIME HAPPENING AT THE SAME TIME DID NOT INVOLVE YOU OR THEM. A BLESSING IN ITSELF!

ANYWAY, 24 HOURS IN A DAY AND 500 HOURS WORTH OF WORK TO DO GENERATED IN THAT SAME TIME FRAME! HARD TO CATCH UP WITH BUT WE DO ALL THAT WE CAN.

BEST OF LUCK WITH YOUR SITUATION!!! kuntryfolk@yahoo.com

Its really sad when Police Departments no longer take petty crimes seriously. But can you blame them when the US Government does not enforce our border controls and allows corporations to employ 11/12 million illegal immigrants. Cities in some liberal areas have decided to make a policy not to cite individuals for pot possession.

I had my business broken into and a cell phone taken. Later that same day I found calls made on my online tracking system and handed the numbers over too the police - they didn't even bother to call the numbers themselves so I did. I found out who the caller was (former employee) and turned the information in; 6 months; still no arrest or activity. Nothing. Burglary and they don't even investigate.

We had another thief steel our company car, after breaking into our business, and they commited more burglaries the same night. This was in March and in August the culprit will be free after doing 90 days for pleading guilty. The cops would have done nothing except they actually caught him in the vehicle.

The answer to your question is actually rather disturbing. The police have no actual duty to you as a victim- the Supreme court has said so- they only have a duty to protect the "populace as a whole" and not individuals. This being the case if they decide to get really crappy with you they don't even have to accept your phone calls. What a grand idea , huh? Time to learn how to protect yourself better- take personal security/self defense courses, etc.- try the NRA- they have some pretty good courses.

first.. I think you should change banks. they should give you any info you want about your account. and they should only give the police info about your account if they police have a warrant or something like that.... ya know? cops can't just go into banks and demand info about any random persons account... thats not how it works. Video of your wallet getting snatched isn't likely to be very good ... stores have cameras... but usually they suck. cancel all your cards.. get new ones.. .get a new id... and change banks.. cut your losses now. you aren't going to find you old wallet.. I hope you do... but I don't think you will.

Go to the Internal Affairs office of the police department and make a complaint against the officers who told you they could do nothing. Have Internal Affairs assign a non biased police officer to follow up on your leads.

1. Contact a supervisor immediately.
2. Keep after them!

That should take care of your problem with the police.

I am not sure the size of your city, but I will guess bigger. I find cops in smaller co mmunities more responsive than those in bigger metroplolitan areas. But they are giving you the run around. I think some cops are onlly out there to serve and protect themselves. I hope you cancelled all of your credit cards.
