I have had my navel pierced for 11 months, although this was my second attempt.(The first time ended horribly with tons of infection from dirty pool water)Anyways, this time I was very good at keeping it clean and not changing the jewelry for almost 8 months. There was no swelling, pain, or redness when I replaced my jewelry.I have replaced it and it continues to 'goo' and crust. My piercer says its 'normal' but has anyone else had this problem?Even now there is no pain, redness, or swelling. It keeps clean during the day but when I wake up it is very crusty (clear, sometimes yellowish flakes around the ring) and the skin looks as if it is 'healing'.I don't know what to do to fix this problem.Could it just be, like he said, 'normal'?Please share your experiences.Thank you for your time!

Yes, it is normal. If the colour changes, or if you notice a "smell", this is a sign of infection.

This is your body's way of healing. It can sometimes take years for a piercing to heal because it is introducing a foreign object into your body... this is the body's natural way to handle it; just like a splinter.

I had my navel pierced for 2 years before I took it out because the bar was starting to show through the skin (I'm waiting for it to heal so I can get it redone). Anyway, everytime I changed the ring I got a little bit of irritation. I just put neosporin on the bar before I put it in and it never got infected and went away after a day or two.
