I have never been into illeagal drugs and I don't drink. I have some anxiety/panic and depression issues. I have been on script meds for that. I don't think they are medicating me right or understand what I'm trying to tell them. I want to find something...a drug...an herb....anything....that will give me a wonderful feeling of contentment. Not high...not emotionless...no racing heart beat. Just peace and calm. Happiness in the moment. Like everything is okay. Content. What can I take that will give me that overall feeling of calm, peace, happiness and contenment I'm looking for? I am on script pain meds for my back. I don't abuse them. Sometimes when I take a regular dose I will get that feeling I just described. Is there anything else out there that will do the same thing? Please....be serious. I'm not some sort of junkie. I'm just very high strung and don't like it. Thanks.

wow, that's atoughy. id say slow down. its difficult to do so, but maybe if you just kinda stop and relax for a moment ever so often, you might be able to get a little peace. also, id tweek my life a bit. the teachings of the buddha wouldnt be such a bad idea. try following the 8 fold path:
right views
right thought
right speech
right behavior
right livlihood
right effort
right mindfulness
right concentration
all of this combinded provides a total life change. the teachings of the buddha are very insightful. and you can follow them w/out compromising your own religion either. its all decipline and compassion really.

I think everyone is looking for what you're describing. Some things get in the way of feeling content, such as pain or anxiety. If you're still having problems from the back pain, you should tell your doctor.

You may want to look into meditation or other relaxation techniques. These can help you relieve stress/anxiety and make your mind more open to a feeling of contentment. Also, meditation and relaxation are generally free of unhealthy side effects, unlike drugs.

Also, if you haven't already done so, you can try adjusting your diet. Try to cut back on sugar and caffeine, which can cause ups and downs in your mood. Eating more fruits, vegetables, and fish high in omega-3 fatty acids (salmon, mackerel, herring) may help improve your mood too.

Sometimes, a walk in the park or just sitting outside relaxing does the trick for me. Also, gardening or doing something that is fruitful in the long-term may help you feel more content, especially when you reap the rewards of your work. I get a sense of contentment by answering people's questions, which they hopefully find helpful ;-)

Best wishes in your search for contentment :-)
