It should be strictly followed coz. the basic aim of uniform is to provide uniformity between the rich and the poor... If students in the school start wearing the same dress then there is no question of bias among the students themselves... Otherwise it is a battle for who is the sexiest person alive!
It also saves time as if you cannot wear a uniform you take a lot of time in find out the right combinations and finally getting it on...

It is very common in some Asia country, like Malaysia, Singapore Hong Kong, Japan etc.
The good thing for wearing uniform:
1) every one wearing some type of clothing, no one can show off, especially those rich one.
2) you no need to worry what to wear during school time, (save some $ in clothing).
Bad thing:
1) every one know that you from which school.
2) Some uniform design are really like sh*t.
3) usually there is a lot of restriction/school rules to come along with uniform, like length of skirt etc.....

Some pluses some negatives
Pros: Cheaper then other clothes, makes dressing easier -less decision making
Cons:
wearing the same thing everday can me a drag, allows for little fashon self expression
I think it should be based on any relavant factors and weighed like I did above - Pros vs. Cons
On a personal note for my 8 year old daughter it uniforms worked out
Excellent Question though!!

I think it depends on where you're at. If you have a lot of gap between rich and poor I think it's better. If you don't, I don't think it matters that much. It eliminates some of the stupid rules they have now, though. My neice is in Middle School and she's not allowed to wear all kinds of stuff! When I was in school, you could wear anything that covered you in all the spots that had to be covered. You couldn't wear hats or bandanas, but you could wear spaghetti straps, mini-skirts, and short shorts, though.

i wore a uniform to school all my life till this year when i started attending public school.. frankly i like uniforms better, less stress on having to choose clothes and less money wasted on buying tons of clothes. it also gives you the feel to actually being professional and polite. some children might feel restricted.. but honestly, high school is the perfect time to start becoming more professional in preparation of work.

Against. There's time enough for uniforms after graduation. Students should be encouraged to be expressive, creative and independent thinkers.
